FPV Drone Support

What are FPV drones and why do they matter?

FPV (First Person View) drones are unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with a camera that streams live video directly to the operator. This allows the pilot to see the environment from the drone’s perspective, effectively “flying inside” the aircraft.

In tactical applications, FPV drones provide one core advantage: real-time situational awareness. They enable fast terrain reconnaissance, detection of unit movement, identification of threats, and operational decision-making without exposing personnel to risk.

In field-based simulation environments, FPV drones become the “eyes of command” — a dynamic intelligence layer that fundamentally changes how operations are conducted.

FPV drone usage in airsoft gameplay

Integration of FPV into Airsoft Force Tracking unlocks new possibilities for both players and organizers.

Pre-assault reconnaissance
Drones allow teams to scout target areas before engaging. Players can assess enemy positioning, terrain structure, and potential entry routes.

Game control by administrators
Event organizers and session admins can monitor gameplay in real time. With live drone feeds and unit positions, they can:

  • react to critical situations,
  • adjust scenario pacing,
  • enhance narrative immersion.

Vehicle tracking in-game
FPV drones can follow and observe vehicles used in scenarios, increasing realism and enabling more complex mission design.

Identification of unauthorized persons
During large-scale events, drones help detect non-participants who may accidentally enter the play area, improving overall safety.

Drone-based scenarios
FPV becomes a core gameplay element in missions such as:

  • aerial-supported chases,
  • search-and-rescue operations,
  • target hunting and tracking,
  • escort and surveillance tasks.

FPV functionality in Airsoft Force Tracking

The system provides two main drone interaction modes:

1. RTMP streaming from drones

Drone operators can generate an RTMP server endpoint directly in the application and configure it in their drone controller or streaming software.

Once set up:

  • the drone streams live video to the AFT server,
  • the feed becomes available within the session,
  • it can be shared with selected participants based on permissions.

2. Viewing drone feeds

Every authorized participant can:

  • select a drone from the session list,
  • open a live stream view,
  • monitor the battlefield from an aerial perspective in real time.

Drone management within a session

Drones are always attached to an active session.

Who can add drones?

Drone creation is restricted to:

Regular players do not have permission to manage drone assets.

How to add a drone

  1. Create or join a session.
  2. Log in under the appropriate army (admin or selected faction).
  3. Join the HQ team.
  4. Open the navigation menu and select Drones.
  5. Tap the “+” button to create a new drone.
  6. The drone is now assigned to your army within the session.

To edit a drone:

  • open the context (hamburger) menu,
  • select Edit.

Drone edit screen

The drone configuration panel contains all essential operational parameters.

Core fields

Name
The drone identifier used within a session. Especially important when multiple devices are active simultaneously.

Type
Device category:

  • Drone – standard FPV drone,
  • Personal Camera – wearable or weapon-mounted camera,
  • Static Camera – fixed surveillance cameras (industrial, traffic, or field cameras).

State
Operational status:

  • Ready – fully operational,
  • Charging – temporarily unavailable,
  • Configuration required – initial setup pending,
  • Out of service – decommissioned but still retained in session history.

Custom View URL
Optional external video source (HLS / m3u8). Allows bypassing AFT hosting if required.

Description
Short metadata field (up to 250 characters). Can include:

  • operational notes,
  • communication channel to the operator,
  • technical or tactical remarks.

Context menu (hamburger)

  • Remove – deletes the drone from the session.
  • Share RTMP key – exposes streaming parameters required for external configuration.

Controlling drone visibility

Session administrators and HQ members can define which armies have access to a given drone feed.

Within the Visibility settings, it is possible to:

  • restrict access to selected factions,
  • broadcast to all allied forces,
  • isolate feeds for special operations.

This mechanism provides fine-grained information control for tactical scenarios.

Watching live drone feeds

To start viewing a stream:

  1. Log into a session.
  2. Open the Drones menu.
  3. Select a drone from the list.
  4. Click Watch streaming.

The system automatically connects you to the live video feed.

Starting a drone stream

To initiate streaming:

  1. Log into a session.
  2. Navigate to Drones in the main menu.
  3. Select the desired drone.
  4. Open the context (hamburger) menu.
  5. Enter the edit screen.
  6. Select Share RTMP Key from the secondary menu.

Using the generated data:

  • configure the stream endpoint on your drone controller,
  • follow the manufacturer’s instructions to start broadcasting.

Once activated, the video stream becomes available in the session and accessible according to visibility rules.

Summary

FPV integration in Airsoft Force Tracking transforms drones from isolated operator tools into a shared situational awareness layer for the entire battlefield. With centralized streaming, permission-based visibility, and session-aware management, drones become a core component of command, coordination, and immersive scenario design.
