Meshtastic – Compatible Devices

Compatible Devices

If you already know what Meshtastic is and how it works, this page will help you choose the right hardware to use it with Airsoft Force Tracking.

What you need

To use Meshtastic with AFT you need two things:

A Meshtastic device — a small LoRa radio module running Meshtastic firmware. This is the hardware that handles radio communication between players.

An Android phone — running Android 10 or newer, with Bluetooth 4.0 or higher. The official Meshtastic app must be installed and the device paired via Bluetooth before launching AFT.

Tested devices

Airsoft Force Tracking has been tested with the following hardware:

DeviceStatus
LilyGO T-Echo✅ Tested
Heltec WiFi LoRa 32 V4✅ Tested
Seeed Wio Tracker L1 Pro✅ Tested

Any device officially supported by Meshtastic should work. The full list of supported hardware is available on the Meshtastic hardware page.

GPS module is not required. AFT uses your phone’s GPS directly. A Meshtastic device without a GPS module works perfectly fine with AFT.

Keep your firmware up to date. Meshtastic firmware is actively developed. Using an outdated firmware version may cause compatibility issues. Always update your device before an event.

Choosing the right frequency for your country

Meshtastic devices operate on different radio frequencies depending on your region. Using the wrong frequency is illegal and means your device will not communicate with others.

For most of Europe, the correct region is EU_868 (868 MHz ISM band, license-free under ETSI regulations).

If you are outside Europe, check the official LoRa Region by Country table on the Meshtastic website before purchasing hardware. Make sure the device you buy supports the frequency used in your country – not all devices support all bands.

You set the region in the Meshtastic app during initial device setup. AFT takes over channel configuration from there — you do not need to configure frequency manually for AFT sessions.

Next steps

Once you have a compatible device and it is paired with your phone, head over to the Getting Started guide to connect it with AFT in a few minutes.

If something is not working as expected after setup, the Diagnostics & Status page explains what the status indicators mean and how to identify common problems.
