Adding Offline Maps to the Map Store

The Offline Map Store in Airsoft Force Tracking is designed to remove one of the biggest pain points of outdoor and milsim gameplay: manual offline map distribution.

No file copying. No emails. No questionable downloads.
Just trusted maps, delivered directly inside the app by Session Administrators.

What offline maps are supported

Offline maps in AFT are based on the osmdroid ZIP format, prepared using MOBAC (Mobile Atlas Creator).

This is a proven and widely used format that allows:

  • large-area coverage,
  • high zoom levels,
  • and reliable performance without network access.

Community-driven map creation

Players and organizers can prepare their own offline maps and submit them to the AFT Map Store.

Once added, an offline map can be:

  • made available in the Map Store,
  • and assigned directly to a specific session.

This is where the real power of the system shows.

Offline maps assigned to a session

When an offline map is assigned to a session:

  • players joining the session receive a clear notification that an offline map is available,
  • the map was prepared and recommended by the session administrator,
  • players can download the map directly inside AFT.

The download cost is on the player’s data connection, but the process itself is seamless and safe.

There is no need to:

  • copy files manually,
  • exchange ZIPs over messengers,
  • or trust unknown sources.

Players can simply trust the organizer.

Why this matters

Offline maps are often large.
Typical map sizes range from tens to hundreds of megabytes, and large events may involve hundreds of players.

In traditional setups, this leads to:

  • endless pre-event instructions,
  • broken downloads,
  • incompatible files,
  • and last-minute chaos.

AFT removes all of that.

Compared to other applications that still require manual file handling, emailing archives, or copying files into folders, the AFT Map Store offers a clean, modern, and reliable workflow.

No unnecessary work. No friction.

Important note about availability

Because of the significant bandwidth and infrastructure costs involved in hosting large offline maps – especially for large sessions – adding offline maps to the Map Store is currently available by request only.

At this stage of the project:

  • offline maps can be added to selected sessions,
  • after direct contact with the project author,
  • and after an appropriate donation to support development and hosting costs.

This approach allows the feature to exist sustainably while keeping AFT accessible to the broader community.

A feature built for serious events

The Offline Map Store is designed for:

  • large-scale events,
  • remote locations,
  • unreliable network coverage,
  • and organizers who value preparation and trust.

It turns offline maps from a logistical nightmare into a first-class feature of the session itself.
