Map Icons and Symbols

Each player and each Team can define their own unit type directly in the application.

To do this:

  • open the Navigation Menu,
  • select Define Myself,
  • and choose the unit type that best represents your role on the field.

This setting controls how your player icon is displayed on the map when the map is in player view.

Individual role vs team role

The Define Myself tool applies only to the individual player.

  • Your personal unit type represents your current role or specialization (for example: infantry, sniper, engineer, medic).
  • It does not affect the unit type of your team.

When the map is switched to team view, individual player icons are hidden and the team’s unit type is displayed instead. This allows AFT to clearly separate:

  • individual roles at the tactical level,
  • and unit function at the command level.

Designed for clarity and flexibility

By allowing players to define their own unit type while keeping team unit types configurable by administrators, AFT supports both:

  • flexible, player-driven roles,
  • and structured, organized unit representation.

This ensures the map always shows the right level of information, depending on the scale of the event and the selected view mode.
