Run Airsoft Force Tracking on Windows and Mac

Introduction

Airsoft Force Tracking can be successfully run not only on Android mobile devices, but also on Windows and macOS computers by using an Android emulator. This setup allows you to operate the application on large desktop screens, with the comfort of a keyboard and mouse, which can be especially useful during planning, coordination, and command tasks.

For this guide, I decided to base the entire setup on BlueStacks 5. It is a third-party Android emulator, developed and maintained independently from Airsoft Force Tracking. While I do not take responsibility for the operation, availability, or future changes of BlueStacks itself, it is the emulator I currently recommend over other available options, based on stability, performance, and overall usability in real-world scenarios.

It is important to note that desktop computers do not provide access to certain hardware features commonly available on mobile devices, such as GPS receivers, motion sensors, compass, or accelerometers. As a result, while desktop usage may feel more comfortable and precise in terms of control and visibility, some mobile-specific functionalities may be limited or unavailable. Because of this, desktop operation should be treated as a complementary mode, not a full replacement for field devices.

In practice, this setup has proven to be a reliable and effective solution for command staff and HQ roles, where real-time situational awareness, map overview, marker management, and unit coordination are more important than direct sensor input. Many teams successfully use this configuration for command posts, briefing rooms, and after-action analysis.

The instructions presented in this document are shown using Windows as the reference operating system. However, the process on macOS is largely analogous, with only minor differences in installation steps and system dialogs. The overall workflow and configuration remain the same.

This document provides a step-by-step guide on how to install and run Airsoft Force Tracking on a desktop computer. It is divided into four clear sections:

  1. Installing BlueStacks 5 – how to download and install the Android emulator on Windows or macOS
  2. Configuring BlueStacks 5 – recommended settings for performance, controls, and display
  3. Installing Airsoft Force Tracking – installing the application inside the emulator
  4. Launching and Running AFT – starting the app and verifying that everything works correctly

Each section contains:

  • a visual slideshow showing exactly what to click, step by step
  • a written procedure describing the same steps in text form, suitable for readers who prefer written instructions or for AI-based documentation processing

This approach ensures that the guide is both human-friendly and machine-readable, while remaining practical and easy to follow.

Installing BlueStacks5

To run Airsoft Force Tracking on a desktop computer, you first need to install an Android emulator. For this guide, we use BlueStacks.

  1. Open your web browser and go to the official BlueStacks website:
    https://www.bluestacks.com/pl/bluestacks-5.html
  2. Download the BlueStacks 5 installer suitable for your operating system.
  3. Once the installer is downloaded, run it and follow the on-screen instructions to install BlueStacks on your computer.
  4. After the installation is complete, launch BlueStacks 5 to verify that it starts correctly.

At this point, BlueStacks 5 should be installed and ready for initial configuration.
In the next section, we will adjust the emulator settings to ensure stable performance and comfortable control when using Airsoft Force Tracking.

Configuring BlueStacks 5

After installing BlueStacks 5, launch the emulator normally.

By default, BlueStacks installs and runs an instance based on Android 9.
However, Airsoft Force Tracking requires at least Android 11, so the default configuration is not sufficient and must be changed.

To create a compatible Android 11 instance, follow these steps:

  1. In BlueStacks, open the Multi-Instance Manager.
You can do this by pressing Ctrl + Shift + 8 or by selecting it from the BlueStacks menu.
  2. In the Multi-Instance Manager window, click “Add instance”.
  3. Choose “Fresh instance” when prompted.
  4. Select Android 11 as the Android version for the new instance.
  5. Configure the additional settings for the emulator instance, such as:
    • number of CPU cores
    • amount of RAM allocated to the emulator
The default values are usually sufficient, but allocating more resources may improve performance on more powerful machines.
  6. Confirm the configuration. BlueStacks will now download the Android 11 system image and prepare the new emulator instance. This process may take a few minutes.

Once the Android 11 instance is ready:

  • shut down or stop the previous Android 9 instance
  • launch the newly created Android 11 instance

BlueStacks will restart, and after it finishes loading, you should see clear information in the top-left corner indicating that the emulator is now running Android 11.

At this point, BlueStacks is correctly configured and ready for installing Airsoft Force Tracking in the next step.

Installing Airsoft Force Tracking

With the Android 11 instance running, you can now install the application itself.

  1. In the BlueStacks window, click the Home icon to return to the Android desktop.
  2. On the desktop, locate and open Google Play.
  3. When prompted, sign in using your Google account.
This step is required to gain access to the Google Play Store and download applications.
  4. After logging in, use the search bar in Google Play to search for
    Airsoft Force Tracking.
  5. Select the application from the search results and click Install.
  6. Wait for the installation process to complete.

Once the installation finishes, Airsoft Force Tracking will be available on the emulator’s desktop and ready to be launched.
In the next section, we will start the application and verify that it runs correctly.

Launching and Running AFT

Once the installation is complete, you can start the application.

  1. Go back to the Android desktop in BlueStacks.
  2. Locate and click the Airsoft Force Tracking icon to launch the app.
  3. If this is the first launch, the application will ask for a set of permissions.
Even though your computer most likely does not have physical sensors such as GPS, motion sensors, or a compass, you should grant all requested permissions, including location access. BlueStacks emulates an Android device, so allowing access to GPS and other system features helps the application behave as if it were running on a real phone. Without these permissions, some features may not work correctly or may behave in unexpected ways.
  4. Complete the permission setup process.

After the permissions are configured, the main application screen will appear.
At this point, Airsoft Force Tracking is fully operational and can be used comfortably with a mouse and keyboard on a large desktop screen.

You can now proceed with normal usage, such as joining or managing sessions, monitoring the map, and coordinating units — making this setup especially suitable for command posts and HQ environments.

Summary and Alternative Emulators

In this guide, BlueStacks 5 was chosen as the reference platform because it is widely used, stable, and easy to set up. Despite being a commercial product with ads and bundled features, it currently offers one of the smoothest experiences for non-technical users.

If you are looking for alternatives, the following emulators are also well-known and battle-tested:

  • Genymotion
A professional-grade Android emulator widely used by developers and testers. It offers excellent performance, clear Android version control, and predictable behavior. Best suited for technical users and desktop environments where stability and configurability matter more than gaming features.
  • Android Studio Emulator (AVD)
The official emulator provided by Google. It is free, well-documented, and trusted, and it uses real Android system images. While setup is more technical and the UI is less user-friendly, it is a solid option for users who prefer an ad-free, development-grade, and transparent solution.

Regardless of the emulator you choose, the key requirement is running Android 11 or newer and correctly configuring permissions so the application can operate as expected.

Used correctly, a desktop setup becomes a powerful extension of Airsoft Force Tracking — not a replacement for field devices, but a reliable command and coordination tool.
